Laurie Bray uses her camera lens as “another way of seeing”, seeking the spirit behind the mask of ordinary appearances. “The nicest compliment I can receive is when someone tells me my photograph transformed an everyday object or scene into a unique and beautiful image”, says Bray. Seeing novelty in everything, she is compelled to transform the stories of people, architecture, landscapes and even construction into photographic images.
After completing a Bachelors Degree at the University of Utah she opened a studio that she has operated for several decades. She has always enjoyed photographing families and events. She was inspired to expand her repertoire to include street photography, architecture and pursue more fine art photography projects when she relocated her studio to Sugar House in 2006. The passion she feels about her local community and art inspired her to co-found the Sugar House Art Walk in 2011, a small monthly event which is still ongoing.
Laurie’s photographic art decorates many commercial buildings. She has curated and contributed her own photographs to a few installations of historical photos of the Sugar House area. She participated in the Granary Mural Festival and her 16 ft x 8ft mural decorates the exterior of Art Space Commons.

What About Utah Inspires You?Utah is replete with natural majesty-massive mountain ranges, other worldly red rock formations, vibrant flowers in an alpine meadow, vast skies that fill with breathtaking cloudscapes and much more. It is a photographers paradise. I am also inspired by our growing diverse population, our many cultural venues and the extraordinary and plentiful art and music talents in our state.
