Pat Legant took her first printmaking class in 1972, and then after a long hiatus, in 2005 she resumed printing and taking occasional classes at the Saltgrass Printmakers workshop in Salt Lake City. During her many years of working as an oncologist, printmaking served as a respite from the emotional intensity of her job. Since retiring, she continues to print for pleasure, and her works have appeared in various group shows including at Pioneer Theater, Art Access, Saltgrass Printmakers, Holladay Fine Art, AAUW of Utah Women Artists Exhibition, and Kayenta Arts Center. Her favorite methods are etching and linocut, but she also enjoys printing woodcuts, collagraphs, and monotypes, with subjects ranging from fake physiology to painful puns. Recently she has focused on dead flora, as an unsubtle metaphor for the beauty of aging and decay.

What About Utah Inspires You?I fell in love with Utah in the spring of 1977 when I came here to interview and saw the tulip trees in bloom against purple, snow-capped mountains and blue sky. Then in typical Utah spring style, the next day it snowed. In Utah glorious views lie right outside the window, and outdoor adventures are practically at one's doorstep. I don't know that Utah could be said to inspire my art but it has most certainly inspired my life.
