Polly Mottonen

In addition to being a trained geologist, art director, musician’s wife, and mom to two boys, Polly Plummer has been a professional stained-glass artist for 28 years.
Polly moved to Utah from Wisconsin in 1986 for the rocks but quickly fell in love with river-running, the Utah landscape, and the art scene. In 1992, she began to work for Catalyst Magazine in Salt Lake City as she developed her skills in stained glass. Her projects have ranged from domed ceilings, a stained-glass swimming pool, hotel walls, bathrooms, and everything in between! Polly utilizes an array of different techniques for each piece -- calling on her years of experience and keen eye to create unique stained-glass windows that engender smiles, happy rainbows, and architectural interest.

What About Utah Inspires You?

Arriving in Utah 30 years ago with a fresh geology degree and my stained glass tools I took every opportunity to explore the state. I made a point of not saying no to any invitation and as result had opportunities to run all the rivers, climb the mountains, camp in hidden canyons and work with the best artists and writers Utah has to offer in several glass studios and as the Art Director for CATALYST magazine for 27 years. Being in the company of such inspiring land and people informs my work. A western point of view combining color, spark and grit!
