Anna Pottier

Nova Scotia born, of Acadian origin, Pottier is a self-taught artist working primarily in oils. She began painting in 1995 after an amicable but harrowing end to her marriage to a world-renown poet. Words could not express what she was experiencing, but colors could. She has been painting ever since. After many years in Montreal, she moved to Utah in 2010 for love and landscapes. It was here she was able to complete and publish her memoir. After a few summers of driving a water truck to help keep herself in paint and canvasses, she began exhibiting at local art festivals as well as in New Mexico and Texas. She quit her job in early 2020, and after 50-odd years of dreaming it, she built an art studio and paints full time. Her work is in private collections in Canada, the USA, and Israel. She lives in West Valley City with her husband and two rescue cats.

What About Utah Inspires You?

The landscapes. Did I mention the landscapes and how they change and provide glimpses through to the past? I absolutely adore the fact one can drive a few miles and find oneself in a completely altered landscape. Our current home was built in 1913, and sits on half an acre of somewhat rustic, rampant (unmanicured) nature. Utah's air might not always be good, but the light! The light here is magical. I look out my studio window and am transported, awestruck, and energized, daily.
